ABOUT

The Association  for Krishnamurti Studies is a forum of educators, professionals, students, and serious inquirers (including educators, students, scholars and other professionals) intent on examining questions related to J. Krishnamurti and his teachings from the perspectives of the various academic disciplines utilizing sound scholarly methods of investigation.  Its primary intention is to bring Krishnamurti and his teachings more fully into the academic world so as to facilitate a wider recognition of their significance.

Krishnamurti (1895-1986) spent most of his life giving discourses in Asia, Europe, and the Americas that addressed many of the critical problems that face individuals and humanity. He also held discussions with numerous people from diverse walks of life and authored several books that explored the human condition and our relationship to nature. This body of work has come to be called Krishnamurti's teachings.  Krishnamurti founded several schools in India, the UK, and the USA and explored matters related to education and the significance of life.

Given Krishnamurti's extensive work, the teachings merit serious study and inquiry. What, for instance, does Krishnamurti mean when he says, "You are the world," or the "observer is the observed" or by the paradoxical phrase, "the inner is the outer?"  The person of Krishnamurti and his life may also be the subject of study, in so far as they illuminate and contextualize his teachings and their circumstances.

Persons seriously concerned about these matters and committed to the application of careful scholarly approaches to inquiry are invited to participate in the work of the AKS.

Mission Statement of AKS
